Kris Johnson

Kris Johnson approaches art with a mathematician's eye and a poet’s heart. Inspiration comes from her tromping grounds of Maine, France, and Spain and from them spring images rich in deep color and evocative of Gauguin.

Hers is a romantic spirit tempered by solidly built imagery-simplification of form in a highly stylized vision that projects a clean cohesive vision. Her colors contrast, but don’t argue and her use of black defining lines pushes forth her subjects while inviting the viewer to linger with them.

"My interest is in shape, form and negative space," says Johnson. I hope for some small sense of mystery in my work and some lyricism and energy in my compositions."
